Cajeput grows wild in the sub-continent and is cultivated mainly in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh leaves of the plant.
Cajeput include: Analgesic, antimicrobial, antineuralgic, antispasmodic, antiseptic, carminative, expectorant, febrifuge, insecticide, sudorific & tonic.
Aromatherapists may use Cajeput in massage blends aimed at warming and reducing fatigue in muscles & joints, especially in those suffering with arthritis or rheumatism.
When burned or vaporised Cajeput is used to ward off colds, flu and other viral infections. It can also be of help to the respiratory system especially in cases of Asthma, bronchitis, excessive catarrh, coughs and sinusitis. It may also be useful in combating spots, oily skin and in soothing insect bites and stings. In a steam inhalation Cajeput can be useful in clearing congestion and may also help to soothe a sore throat.
Most essential oils blend well with one another. You may find that Cajeput blends especially well with angelica, bergamot, clove, geranium, lavender and thyme.
